The Dan Marino Foundation has raised
over $20 million to provide research,
treatment programs, and outreach
services that have benefited children
with developmental disabilities
and their families. Funding has
been commited to the following programs:
Research - Marino
Autism Research Institute (MARI)
The Dan Marino Foundation pledged
$1.2 million to fund the Marino
Autism Research Institute. The Institute
is a one-of-a-kind, multi-site,
virtual institute with the University
of Miami and Vanderbilt University
working together to form a new research
and service collaboration. The basic
goal of MARI is to bring two leading
universities together to accelerate
discovery of new strategies for
understanding, treating, and preventing
autism.
Capital
Expansion - Miami Children's Hospital Dan Marino Center
The Dan Marino Foundation pledged $400,000 for the remaining
build-out of the Dan Marino Center to include additional office
space, a state-of-the art gym for use by the occupational
and physical therapists, and $200,000 for an adaptive aquatic
center.
Outreach
- Childnett.tv
The Dan Marino Foundation pledged $150,000 to continue operation
of Childnett.tv. The Marinos realize how important early intervention
services and resources are to all parents with special needs
children. In an effort to make the same types of services
found at the Dan Marino Center accessible to families and
professionals worldwide, they launched Childnett.tv in 2003
- a first-of-its-kind, free web TV channel dedicated to autism
and other neuro-developmental disorders.
University
of Miami/Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and
Related Disabilities (UM/NSU CARD)
The CARD Centers, located throughout the state of Florida,
provide free services to individuals with autism and their
families including individual direct family support, technical
assistance, parent and professional training, and public education
and awareness.
Vanderbilt
University Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum
Disorders (TRIAD)
The TRIAD Program is designed to improve the lives of children
with autism and their families through a wide range of services
including individual family consultation, behavior management
training, social skills training, and early intervention training
for parents of children with autism.
Marino Swim Central
Adaptive Aquatics Certification
In April, 2006, Dan Marino traveled to Tallahassee in support
of House Bill 1319 sponsored by Representative Susan Goldstein.
The Bill was unanimously passed in both the Florida House
of Representatives and the Senate. This bill requires certification
of swimming instructors working with people with developmental
disabilities that is imperative to the safety of these individuals.
The funding will support the development and implementation
of the instructor training program.
